Our huacaya alpacas live just south of Canberra in New South Wales, Australia. The Mirrormere herd is small but gives us beautifully soft fibre for high quality yarn and roving.
Starting with a few animals bought as herd guards, Mirrormere is now focused on breeding animals with fine/superfine fleece that maintains its micron for longer and doesn't 'blow out' in older animals. Our oldest girl has a micron of 22 on her 14th fleece and our youngest is 14.8 on his second. This ensures a herd that consistently produces quality fibre.
Some of our alpacas love a cuddle, all come running for a treat. It's a wonderful way to raise animals and also produce a sought after product for knitting, crochet, weaving and felting!
